To implement a large-scale and complex programme such as the Arafura and Timor Seas Environmental Action (ATSEA) is not an easy feat. After a 5-year long intermission of the programme, a new team is ready to take on the duties that lay ahead in the next 5 years through the duration of this project.

The ATSEA-2 team comprises several units including the Regional Project Management Unit (RPMU) and the National Coordinating Units (NCU) of each implementing country: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste. Each of these units work in coordination with one another to ensure that the goals and objectives of ATSEA-2 are met.

The RPMU serves as a guidance unit and is led by Handoko Adi Susanto who has years of experience in planning and management of Marine Protected Areas, policy development and public funding.

The NCUs play an essential role in the implementation of activities done at national and local levels. Heading the NCU of Indonesia is Dwi Ariyoga Gautama (Yoga) to whom marine ecology has been at the center of his professional career for over the last 10 years. The NCU of Timor-Leste is led by Gerson Alves who has more than 15 years’ experience working with development agencies and multilateral development projects in Timor-Leste. Acting as an interim project coordinator in Papua New Guinea is Brian Kumasi who is the Executive Manager of Fisheries Management at Papua New Guinea’s National Fisheries Authority.

Together with their supporting team-members each unit synchronizes their efforts to ensure a sustainable management of the Arafura and Timor Seas (ATS) region.
