Where we work : Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea plays a growing role in regional marine governance. ATSEA works with PNG institutions and local communities to enhance coastal fisheries, strengthen enforcement, and reduce cross-border environmental risks. 

Key achievements from ATSEA-2 Project include: 

• Development of the Fore Coast Artisanal Fishery Management Plan (FAFMP) and enactment of the Fore Coast Kiwai Local-level Government Law on Management of the Marine Environment and Artisanal Fisheries, PNG’s first local management plan and law on artisanal fisheries 

• An improvement in the use of sustainable fishing gear following its adoption
