In Timor-Leste, ATSEA-2 is based in several municipalities, where a range of projects will be initiated. These activities will include the strengthening of existing Marine Protected Area (MPA), while also designating a new MPA and promoting alternative livelihoods for the communities that live and work in these locations. A variety of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) plans will be developed and implemented, focusing on alternative livelihoods and capacity building.
Município Viqueque
ATSEA-2 will use an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) in Município Viqueque, to improve and protect red snapper fisheries.
Municípios Manatuto & Manufahi
The ATSEA-2 Programme will design and support the designation of Betano to Claluc MPA.
Barique Posto Administrativo & Município Manatuto
Several Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) plans will be developed, implemented and expanded, featuring climate change adaptations. The development of alternative livelihoods and capacity building in local communities are also supported.
Município Covalima
In an effort to address pollution impacting the ATS region, the project will provide training and facilitate knowledge exchanges related to oil spill response and preparedness.
Município Lautem
In Timor-Leste’s Lautem municipality, the ATSEA-2 Project will focus on strengthening Nino Konis Santana MPA management, supporting a locally managed marine area in the adjacent waters and promoting alternative livelihoods for local people.
