Coordinating Regional Action for the Arafura and Timor Seas
ATSEA Program operates regionally across four countries—Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste—to address shared marine challenges in the Arafura and Timor Seas (ATS). This transboundary area links the Indian and Pacific Oceans and supports rich biodiversity, vital fisheries, and the livelihoods of millions of coastal residents.
The ATSEA Regional Secretariat is located in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, and serves as the coordination hub for regional initiatives. From this hub, the Program connects efforts across national borders to ensure alignment with the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) 2024–2033, which provides the shared direction for regional marine governance.
The Secretariat works through the Regional Governance Mechanism to help ATS countries coordinate their efforts and carry out joint actions that protect marine resources for the long term.
