The Arafura and Timor Seas Ecosystem Action (ATSEA) Program is seeking an experienced Monitoring Expert to design and pilot a Regional Monitoring System for Abandoned, Lost and Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) across the Arafura and Timor Seas region.

Working closely with the Interim Regional Secretariat and partners from Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste, the consultant will lead the design of a long-term, cost-effective monitoring system to identify ghost net hotspots, assess intervention effectiveness, and support implementation of the forthcoming Regional Action Plan on ALDFG.

The Arafura and Timor Seas Ecosystem Action (ATSEA) Program is seeking a qualified ALDFG Site Mobiliser to support on-the-ground implementation of activities in Merauke, South Papua, Indonesia. The position will play a key role in coordinating field activities and engaging local stakeholders to address Abandoned, Lost or otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) in the Arafura Sea.

Working closely with the Interim Regional Secretariat and local partners, the Site Mobiliser will support community engagement, training and awareness activities, and the implementation of practical solutions such as gear loss prevention, net waste management, and local monitoring efforts.
