The Arafura and Timor Seas Ecosystem Action Phase II (ATSEA-2) project is currently supporting the development of an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) plan for red snapper fisheries in the Arafura and Timor Seas. Find out more about ATSEA-2 here (https://atsea-program.com).
As a stakeholder of these fisheries, we request your assistance. The following survey will provide invaluable information on the key issues to be addressed by the EAFM plan. The survey itself is very brief; it will take less than 5 minutes of your time.
Rest assured that any information provided will be treated with confidentiality. No responses to any questions will be published in full, nor will any published remarks be attributable to survey respondents.
The Arafura and Timor Seas (ATS) region supports rich and diverse demersal fisheries for a range of species, targeted by small-scale and commercial fleets domiciled in the four ATSEA partner countries; Australia, Australia, Indonesia, PNG and Timor-Leste.
Under the ATSEA-2 programme, Fishwell Consulting/Starling Resources have been contracted to produce a regional Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) plan for red snapper fisheries. EAFM can provide a pathway for ATS countries to improve the governance and performance of the red snapper fishery, and balance ecological and human needs across the Arafura Timor Seas ecosystem.
In order to develop the EAFM plan, we are now seeking feedback from stakeholders on the optimal scope for the EAFM plan for Red Snapper fisheries in ATSEA, and the issues to be addressed by the plan. This process builds on earlier work by ATSEA, which includes a Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) and the creation of the Strategic Action Plan.
